Tubes (2015, Ensemble, electronics)

“Tubes” was written for the Gasometer Oberhausen. This is one of the largest closed spaces I ever came to make music in. It is about 110m in height and has a diameter of about 60m. Thus it has huge reverb times and early reflections are actually not so early.
For “Tubes” the ten players sit on the first balcony at the wall of the gasometer, surrounding the public. So do 4 of the loudspeakers. A 5th speaker is positioned some meters below the ceiling. The concert featured another piece by Lukas Tobiassen for the same lineup and setup.
We tried to do a recording of that concert, but that showed to be virtually impossible in this space.
The premiere took place during the NOW! Festival in autumn 2015 and was played by an ad hoc-ensemble of students of Folkwang University of the Arts.
Tubes was commissioned by the Philharmonie Essen.
